A Family that Cares Shares

Yesterday morning the boys woke up miserable, Doug wasn't feeling too hot either and I whether psychological or not started to feel a little tingle in my throat. So we loaded up in the van and took the boys to the ped and Doug and I went to the dr. The diagnosis..... Strep for the boys and the good chance that it could be developing for Mom and Dad. The only one spared so far Eden. Thank goodness for that. It never seems to end, but with some good antibiotics and some rest we are on the mend.

Here's the Latest

So here's the latest in our never ending hospital saga. I really shouldn't complain. It could be worse, but I am tired of just sitting here and waiting to see what will happen next.
This morning the resident finally had an action plan. As long as no new fevers pop up and she pees well tonight (she got some strong IV diuretics this afternoon.) we may get out of here soon. Of course I won't jinx myself by saying we'll get out tomorrow, but soon will be good. Also, Eden's regular GI Dr will be on call this next week, which makes me sooo happy because she is much more proactive than the Dr that was on last week plus she already knows Eden's history.

Other than that Doug and the bo bo brothers (aka Seth and Ethan) came to visit us today. It was a nice break from the monotony. However the hospital is no place for two very active three year olds. That pull cord that they have in the bathrooms to alert the nurses is far to tempting to leave alone. Though after they pulled it twice last Saturday I was much more vigilant about keeping them away from it this time. They did however still enjoy moving Eden's bed up and down and playing in the closets.

So I will keep the blog posted with updates tomorrow. As soon as we get an ok to get out of here I am bookin it before something new pops up. We are now on our third complication for this visit. I don't want to add a fourth.

More Fevers

Eden is still spiking fevers on and off. So the plan is to tap the fluid she is retaining to see if that is the culprit for the fevers. I believe this is the likely cause since all other tests have come back negative. They will do the test sometime tomorrow and then depending on the results start her on IV antibiotics. She has been a trooper through this all and is doing well. She is getting tired of being in her room though. So we have gone on several walks. Today we got to go visit Grace. (See Gourley) on the right. That was a nice break for both of us. Eden was so happy to have something and someone different to look at she calmed right down. Will let you know how things go tomorrow.

Still in Prison

Ok so maybe "prison" is a bit harsh, but it sure feels that way right now. So we were all set to go home today and Eden got a fever of 101. Not sure why yet. I suspect that she is teething. 101 is a bit high to just be teething, but I can feel something coming through those gums. So anyway here we wait. GRRR!

Going Home Tomorrow

So the plan is for us to head home tomorrow. Eden's sodium levels while still on the low side are improving. Also I now know how to place her NG tube and take care of it. She screamed like mad when I put it in. Who wouldn't? It is soooo worth it though. Now I know she is getting the calories she needs whether she takes them by mouth or not. Plus, it makes giving her meds so much easier. The nurses might have thought it was odd they I didn't seem to phased when they first put it in. Just goes to show how frustated I was trying to feed her.
As for how Eden is doing. She is still her happy little self. She is getting bored of being in this room though. Hence, we have been on many walks. She loves it when anybody talks to her. She is definitly a people person.

Today's Update

So not much has gone on today. Eden's hematocrit is looking better, but her sodium levels are low due to the diuretics she is on. They will not send her home until they come up. This could also be the cause of why she is feeling yucky and throwing up so much lately. Hopefully they will start looking better and she can come home soon. Right now she is sleeping peacefully. Sleep. I should probably think about getting some of that too.

Eden got to meet this very friendly kitty named Bullet last Friday. He even let her pull his ears a few times. I guess there was a puppy today that came around but Eden was sleeping at the time. I am sure she would have enjoyed it as well. She is an animal lover. Except for aunt Carrie's pomeranians. For some reason, she just doesn't like them. Who knows maybe someday she will sweet talk her daddy into letting her have a dog. :)

A little update

So we are still at the hospital. They want to keep an eye on Eden's hematocrit and stool for any more signs of blood. She has decided she doesn't like the nasty formula (pregestamil) she is on and will not take any by bottle. So she is getting fed through a tube, but whatever works. She is currently only 12 pounds.
Hopefully we will be able to break free tomorrow. She did just throw up a little blood, but the dr's weren't to concerned considering her esophagitis. Right now she is playing with toys in her bed and has been a happy girl.

The tube

Eden's new fashion look, see if we can get people everywhere to get one. So the plan now it to get at least 3 oz every 3 hours. Whatever she doesn't eat goes in the tube. We can also give her medicine through the tube which will saw Erica over an hour each day. Let's get chubby!!!

Back to the ER

Well we are back up at Primary Children's. Eden has not been keeping down food, and has thrown up some more blood. Not as bad as last time. So getting everything checked out. Her White blood cell count is high so there is something going on besides being dehydrated. She has drunk 10 oz of Pedalyte and has an IV in so hopefully we will start moving in the right direction.

Ethan's ER Visit

Ethan had some peanut butter today by accident. So we gave him an Epipen and some Benadryl. Then just to make sure everyhting was good we took him to the ER. He got to ride in the ambulance to the Hospital. Those darn allergies. Back at home now, and everything is okay. Watching Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Eden's Follow Up

So I took Eden back up to Primary Children's yesterday to follow up after her hospital stay last week. Her liver disease is progressing, but I already knew that. We have to keep increasing her diuretics to keep the fluid off her belly, she is not gaining weight at all, and to top it all off her bubble echo showed she has veins running through her lungs so she is not oxygenating as well. This was only a problem when she was sedated, but now we need to monitor that so it doesn't become a problem.
The hope is that with better nourishment and weight gain her liver will kick in and do it's job. I know she is on the road to transplant, but just hoping to delay it for a little while.
Despite all this she is still a smiley, happy little girl.
